Historic Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church Hit By Ike
Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church on Ferry Road, Baytown suffered major flood damage from Hurricane Ike to the city’s oldest church and the state’s second oldest Methodist church. Founded in 1844 by Dr. Robert Alexander, the church has stood at roughly the same site since 1847 with a lineage tied to Texas history and notable figures such as Moseley Baker and Burnet. The history recalls the 1854 Burnet meeting, the 1857 second church, and the 1909 bell tower addition, as community memory centers surround the current structure.
