Options abound for group discussing ferry's future
Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Sylvia Garcia convened a community advisory committee to examine the Lynchburg Ferry’s future. The group considered keeping the present service, privatizing operations, using the ferry solely for tourism, running one or both boats, replacing boats with a larger vessel, or adding a new bridge, with no firm stance yet. Ferry costs have risen 25 percent in five years and the engines of the aging boats may fail soon. last summer the court spent 830000 dollars on the ferry program, including over 500000 for landings.
