Guest speaker: C VY. Kirkpatrick dean of Cilien College of Engineering. Relatives visiting in Houston this week. Mother of J Strickland dies in Center Texas. Lloyd promoted to Captain at Fort Sam Houston San Antonio. Captain Lloyd leads Deny C Second Battalion at US Army Medical Training Center.
The Baytown area forecast calls for continued clear to partly cloudy weather with a mild temperature change. Temperature range expected from 55 to 72 degrees, and tides in Galveston noted with a low at 12:36 p.m. and 2 p.m. indications.
Reports say U S planes and B52s carried out heavy strikes against Viet Cong positions in a new ground clash 60 miles northwest of Saigon with unclear outcome. Other actions hit Tay Ninh Province amid poor weather as North Viet Nam air strikes continue. Navy reports claim 298 Communist cargo barges sunk or damaged in related operations.
Prostorm plans the annual East Harris District appreciation dinner for volunteer scout workers. The event, a covered-dish supper, begins at 6:39 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. Henry H Rosser serves as master of ceremonies with Rev Burnette W Dowler and Rev Harry Holmes giving invocations and benediction. Ralph W Widener Jr a Houston realtor and Explore Post 215 adviser will speak. An Eagle Scout celebration and other district recognitions follow.
Baytown Postmaster M. L. Neal said that first class mail personal sound recordings and parcels up to five pounds or 60 inches will be airlifted to overseas posts in Viet Nam. Second class publications will also airlift from San Francisco to service members.
Cape Kennedy hosts Gemini 12 astronauts Navy Captain James Lovell and Air Force Major Edwin Aldrin as they start debriefings after a record setting 4 day mission. They will discuss the flight then move to Houston for detailed debriefings and a news conference. Lovell and Aldrin reflect on achieving a triumphant end to the program with their splashdown in the Atlantic near the Sargasso Sea. Aldrin notes the spacewalk exceeded expectations with three excursions totaling 3 hours 27 minutes.
The Community Chest board in Baytown announced that the United Fund budget committee will review proposed 1967 budgets following a record Octob er campaign surpassing expectations by over 12. The 36 member board meets soon to ensure funds are spent wisely under budget committee guidance.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals denied without opinion the state's rehearing motion on the Ruby Oswald murder reversal. Oswald named as Kennedy assassin per Warren Commission. Sheppard retrial moves to seventh jury. Bruins game set for Cedar Bayou gym Saturday.
Baytown ceremony honors the 1941 Ganders and their 21-2 victory over Port Arthur. Coach Stallworth and 11 players present as hometown leaders recall the defining game and celebrate enduring team spirit.
President Johnson underwent two procedures at Bethesda Naval Hospital to remove a throat polyp and repair a gallbladder surgery scar. Doctor James Cain said the polyp was benign and clear cut. Johnson spoke briefly with doctors during the 33 minute operation and will limit voice use for four to five weeks.
Regents meet at 6 30 pm Thursday in the College Library to discuss a new ILC training course for the career field to be added to the Lee College schedule. Agenda includes a building program report by architect James Davis, facility plans, burglar alarm proposal by Don Hagen Co, registrar summary, tax roll approval, budget comparison, custodial salary changes, maintenance memorandum, and prior administrative changes up for approval.
