Baytown police are investigating the theft of an air related item. Detectives are reviewing footage and interviewing witnesses to identify suspects. No further details were released.
The Baytown Rock and Mineral Club will gather at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sterling Library. D. A. Bauer will be guest speaker.
Texas statewide returns tallied by the Texas Election Bureau show President candidates George McGovern and Richard Nixon with 1 159 532 votes and 9 293 231 votes respectively. Senator results list Barefoot Sanders and John Tower with 1 512 065 and 1 850 983 votes. Governor Dolph Briscoe leads over Henry Grover with 1 632 287 to 1 532 075. other statewide offices show Debby Leonard and Jesse James among minor party figures with lower totals.
The board discussed a financial report and the value of department objectives in athletics and guidance. Superintendent Johnny Clark noted reports help evaluate the school district work. The January meeting will focus on business while information sessions aim for department clarity. Some second meetings were canceled or combined due to conflicts.
A federal water pollution suit against Rohm and Haas Deer Park plant proceeds into its second day in Houston. EPA engineer testifies the plant dumps 46.8 pounds daily of cyanide into the Houston Ship Channel and 7,062 pounds of ammonia daily into the same waterway. The 1971 suit seeks an injunction to stop discharges and extra penalties, while the company defends its pollution controls and future plans.
Exxon Annuitants Association officials say they expect to receive replies from Exxon on the request for additional annuitant benefits at the regular meeting set for 10 am Wednesday in the Community Building. Nomination of officers for the coming year will be announced and floor nominations will be welcome. A Dec 20 meeting will finalize officer selections and a social dinner in January or February is suggested to help members meet.

The American Cancer Society will sponsor the first orientation conference outside Houston in Baytown at the Holiday Inn. The all day event covers cancer treatment topics with talks by Dr. Louis E. Neff, Dr. Jack Trunnel, Dr. William A. Goodrich and others, plus rehabilitation and support programs for patients.
Baytown police report 18 year old Wayne Roy Wade injured when his car rolled over on Highway 146 near Lee Drive at 8 15 p m. He was taken to San Jacinto Methodist Hospital and later transferred to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston by Baytown Ambulance Service.
In Baytown opponents circulate petitions to drop the current dress code and adopt health and decency standards. About 300 people, mostly Ross Sterling and Robert E. Lee students, attended a rally at Roseland Park with speakers Giles Ralph Estes Jill Bram Peggy Giles and Tina Finter while Jim Ardoin’s Baytown band played. The group’s officers include Peggy Giles chairwoman Sandy Geisendorff co chair Terry Armor secretary Jill Branom treasurer Danny White PR chairman.
Hospital district board invites Baytonians to a regular meeting at 3 p.m. Monday November 20 in the Administration Building board room on the first floor at 726 Gillette Houston.
