Kickoff is 7 p.m. Saturday for the Optimist Goodfellow Pee Wee football crown. The undefeated Hurricanes of the National League meet the American League Oilers in the feature game, with the Yellow Jackets vs Colts in the runner-up. Tickets cost 50 cents from Optimist members or players.

Pentagon officials say Saigon may end its boycott of broadened Paris peace talks as the United States moves toward negotiations with Hanoi without Saigon. Clark Clifford states the U S will pursue talks with Hanoi regardless of Saigon.
Birmingham executive Karl W. Mallick told the Houston Chamber of Commerce Manufacturers Committee that U S Steel will push ahead with the Texas Works at Baytown and upgrades at Orange to support a 16 inch plate mill in Baytown by year end 1969. He warned that rising steel imports threaten national defense and urged near term aid to domestic steel to avoid foreign supply delays. The speech framed Gulf Coast growth as proof of regional progress and US Steel’s role in a booming Southwest.
Lester Alford and Reggie Brewer, leaders of the Baytown Evening and Noon Optimist Clubs, were honored at the Southeast Texas Optimist District meeting in Galveston. Alford received an electric clock with an Optimist Medallion for Distinguished Lieutenant Governor and the International President's Prospector Award for Zone 8 leadership. Brewer earned the Prospector Award for his club’s growth efforts.

Bank of Baytown to be led by Paul Edwards with a $200000 capital and $200000 surplus, Baytown State Bank tied to First National Bank with $37000 capital and $300000 surplus, both filling local financial needs.
