Veterans Day ceremony in Baytown hosts two congressmen
At the 90th annual veterans day event in Baytown the Community Building welcomed lawmakers Ron Paul and Gene Green. Rev. Fred O'Conner opened with a note on honoring veterans as Congressman Paul urged prioritizing spending and cautioned on military costs. The MCJROTC posted colors as cadets and Pearl Harbor survivor Allas Moore joined Jay Sanders at the ceremony.

Two candidates left race for Lee College presidency
Lee College 째 supporters were told Dr Harold Nolte and Dr Anne McNutt withdrew for personal reasons and other positions. The field now narrows to Dr Michael Murphy of Florida and Dr Lee Sloan of Corpus Christi with Sloan to host a reception 4 30 to 5 30 p m in the Cyber Café. Sloan has 14 years as campus dean at Del Mar College and holds an Ed D from Clemson. Murphy served as interim president at three institutions and has been a consultant for the Association of Community College Trustees.

Baytown Thanksgiving Feast aims for record aid
The Baytown Community Alliance plans its largest Thanksgiving Day feast for Baytown's needy despite Hurricane Ike setbacks. Organizer Shirley Sneed notes many businesses cannot help this year, but donations are expected to come. The group, “Friends Serving Friends,” has served about 5,000 meals previously and now anticipates exceeding 6,000. A volunteer meeting is set for Wednesday, Nov. 26, the day before the event.
