For the duration we didn’t sweat the small stuff in wartime Baytown
Wanda Orton recalls Baytown during WWII from 1941 to 1945 focusing on patriotism and community effort. She describes blue and gold stars, war bond drives, air raid drills, rationing, and volunteer groups like the Ambulance Corps and National Defense Unit. Families hosted servicemen, USO dances, and wartime construction strained resources, with life centered on defense and sacrifice.
