A Chambers County Library in Anahuac hosts a teen group event focused on holiday safety. Participants dress up in themed outfits while learning safety tips and crafting activities to promote responsible celebration.
The federal government will conduct its first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System at 1 p.m. Central Time today. The test is initiated by the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Emergency Management Agency and should be heard on virtually all radio and television stations.
Alec McGuire, band director at Robert E. Lee High School, spent Monday night in a San Antonio jail after a DUI arrest just before midnight. He has 18 years of service with Goose Creek ISD. District says he was in San Antonio on school business for the state marching band competition and no students were with him at the time.
Chambers County Commissioners Court formally supports the Cedar Bayou Watershed Protection Plan and adds members to the steering committee. Commissioner Gary Nelson is appointed to the steering committee as the Chambers County representative with A.R. Senac named as the alternate. The watershed drains Cedar Bayou and tributaries across Harris Liberty and Chambers counties amid long-running water quality concerns.
A 30 year old Baytown man whose name is Jorge Paredes is accused of urging his 11 year old son to attack a 13 year old classmate at a Ripple Creek bus stop. The incident drew witnesses including a mother. The father faces injury to a child charges while the son faces charges as well. The school district suspended the boy from bus transportation for 15 days. Goose Creek CISD officials had no comment.
Richard Plato chief executive of Momentum Production Corp Baytown was indicted on charges of mail and wire fraud and securities fraud by the Texas State Securities Board. Also charged were Michael Derek Walker and Tammy Renee Norris described as Plato s longtime mistress. The case involves an alleged oil and gas investment scam.
With nearly all Harris County precincts in, Baytown street maintenance sales tax renewal leads by 919 to 218 votes, over 80 percent. The Emergency Service District north of Baytown trails in late results, 127 to 63, as precincts report. The street tax funds street repair, first approved eight years ago and re-approved four years ago. The EMS district would fund fire and EMS service with a 10 cent cap per $100 valuation, replacing county-paid fire service in unincorporated areas.
