Johnson to Press Button at Houston Ship Channel Anniversary

President Lyndon Johnson will participate in the 50th anniversary ceremonies of the Houston Ship Channel completion. Activities include ceremonies at Public Dock 25 and a 6 p.m. dinner at Shamrock with Gov. Connally delivering the principal address. The event features the Robert Lee Band and Baytown Lee Brigades, a flotilla reading, and remarks by notable Texans.

Still Hope For Crown Ganders Roll Past Golden Tors 31-13

The Robert E. Lee Ganders defeated Ball High 31-13 to claim a second straight District LHA win. George Rincon scored three touchdowns, Tommy Sooy kicked four extra points and a 21-yard field goal, while Kelly Olive returned a kickoff for a score. Ball High's Jose Martinez and Bernard Harvey tallied the Tor scores as Galveston pressed for the district crown amid hopeful chatter from Ganders supporters.

Monday Night Board To Receive High School Plans

Final plans for the new high school are to be presented to the Ns school board Monday night at the administration building. Architect James A. Davis will report on progress and hopes to have the board review them. A building committee meeting led by Knox Beavers met Saturday morning to finalize details. The project is 225000 square feet with contemporary brick exterior and glass at the front. Davis noted exterior glass at other points. The board will also hear a report from auditor C W Suesse and a drainage ditch project for Trivis Elementary joint city-school district plans.

Two Whites Charged in Negroes Deaths in Mississippi River

In Meadville Mississippi River corpses of Charles Eddie Moore and Henry Hezekiah Dee, both 19, were found with mutilated torsos. James Ford Seale, 29, and Charles Marcus Edwards, 31, a Ku Klux Klan member, were charged after FBI and roces officers arrested them. Authorities say Moore and Dee were beaten to death. motive undisclosed.
