Texas board votes to adopt biology textbooks nationwide impact
The State Board of Education preliminarily approved biology texts from 11 publishers amid debate over evolution. The decision could influence states seeking textbooks as Texas, California and Florida dominate the $4 billion market. Some members objected to perceived dogmatic treatment of evolution and urged one by one voting, while supporters urged including alternatives.

Teachers push back on proposed Texas certification change
In Austin, teacher groups oppose SEEC and SBEC plans to simplify certification and allow uncertified teachers with mentor support. Critics argue the issue stems from pay, benefits, and working conditions rather than teacher shortages. They warn instant teachers won’t gain long term experience, while advocates cite flexibility for subject gaps and access to qualified staff.
