Faircloth Wins House District 23 Race in Galveston Area
Republican Wayne Faircloth defeats Democrat Susan Criss by about 3,000 votes to become the first GOP representative for House District 23, which covers Galveston and Chambers counties. Final unofficial tallies show 17,557 for Faircloth and 14,553 for Criss, with county splits of 10,699 to 13,117 in Galveston and 6,888 to 1,436 in Chambers. Faircloth, 61, an insurance agent, succeeds an open seat as longtime Democratic Rep. Craig Eiland did not seek re-election. Criss, 53, is a former district judge. He will serve a two-year term.
