Attend Funeral For W L Grant Aunt in San Antonio

Mr and Mrs W L Willie Grant travel to San Antonio to attend the funeral of his aunt. The Robert E Lee American Field Service committee meeting Tuesday night was canceled due to election night conflicts. Ray Swofford notes the next meeting will be announced later. Baytown Kiwanis apples will be delivered Monday afternoon or Tuesday. Parents Without Partners meets 7 30 pm Tuesday at the Community Building for a round table on remarriage. Kennel Club to meet 7 30 pm Monday at the Community Building, Activity Room 3. Weather: fair and mild, partly cloudy, turning warmer Monday night into Tuesday, upper 40s to lower 70s.

Baytonians Parade In Balloon Decorated Motorcade

Baytown’s balloon and streamer bedecked Humphrey Musskle motorcade, estimated at over 70 cars, rolled from Sears parking lot and into Houston Sunday afternoon. Baytown police escorted the caravan as it faced few opposition signs. VIP seating included Rep. and Mrs. Joe Allen, Mayor Seaborn Cravey, City Councilman Ted Kroesel, and many local residents.

Jet With 57 Aboard Hijacked To Cuba

A National Airlines Boeing 727 carrying 57 aboard was hijacked en route from New Orleans to Miami. The pilot Capt Antone Hunt was forced to fly to Cuba, and later reported the hijacking by two men claiming to represent National freedom fighters.

Baytown Rally Highlights Humphrey Muskie Support

Baytown welcomed the Democratic caravan led by U S Rep Bob Eckhardt and Senator Ralph Yarborough as Baytown officials and residents packed the Community Building. Autopsy Ordered In Prisoner Death Here

An autopsy was ordered after the Baytown prisoner's death over the weekend. Bill Birge, 43, of Morgan City La, died in the city jail Saturday night. Deputy Harris County medical examiner Dr James Sammons pronounced him dead at the scene and ordered the autopsy. Police say Birge had been arrested Wednesday for drunkenness and that fingerprint records were sent to the FBI while relatives could not be located.

Sitters Offered At Two Precincts For Voters

Cadette Troop 171 of Girl Scouts will provide free babysitting at Travis and Burnet schools from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday to aid parents waiting to vote. Leader Mrs Tad Patton said the girls organized the service themselves to help local voters. No charges will be made.
