About 75 area teenagers collected 453 for the Christian Overseas Relief Program Tuesday night. Anyone missing solicitation or wishing to contribute may call St Mark's Methodist Church or mail donations.

Lee College officials spent hours reexamining the defeat of two vital proposals in the recent election. Regents contemplate another vote soon citing low turnout of about 12,280 in the district. They face an anti tax climate and voter misunderstandings about campus projects including parking lot work paid from student permit revenue.
Vice President Hubert Humphrey flew a quarter mile high above the DMZ battlefield as Marines battled Communist forces near Da Nang. Air cover included Phantom jets while Phantoms attacked a suspected missile site north of the DMZ. Humphrey visited Dong Ha base and urged patience with government actions in Vietnam amid talks with Thieu and Ky.
Mes R E Zomwalt of the Baytown League of Women Voters will discuss proposed Texas Constitution amendments at the Baytown Chamber of Commerce noon Friday meeting. Texans vote on these amendments Saturday November 21. Absentee voting is ongoing at the Harris County Courthouse in Houston with three machines from 8 am to 4 pm on most days and 8 am to ? on others. voting ends November 7. Baytonians will vote on the amendments and the Harris Waller county line proposition, not legislative candidates.
The NAACP intends to register more than 500000 potential Black voters in Texas. National associate director W. C. Patton announced that six college chapters and Youth Councils will run the drive, starting December 3 in Houston for South and East Texas and December 10 in Dallas for North and Northeast Texas.
The Baytown Sun will publish a special souvenir tab for the Robert E. Lee High School and Sterling High School homecoming. The program, printed in maroon and blue, lists all players with numbers and positions and includes bands drill teams histories. About 2,000 extra copies of the November 9 edition will be sold to the public at multiple local banks and savings offices.
Viet Cong mortarmen pressed the Loc Ninh district headquarters for a fourth day, striking amid Saigon parade security. The 200 round barrage wounded one American, with 365 Communists reported killed in attempts this week to overrun Loc Ninh, 72 miles north of Saigon, seemingly to spoil President Nguyen Van Thieu's inauguration.
Reggie Brewer, vice president at Citizens National Bank, was elected president of the new Noon Optimist Club in Baytown. The charter meeting at Wyatt's Cafeteria drew 22 members and eight guests with Steele McDonald of the Baytown Evening Optimist Club presiding. Gov. John Cummings and Lt. Gov. Lester Alford attended as guests. Paul Kime led the bylaws discussion and the club adopted them. Officers include Paul Kime, Tom Walmsley, Hoyett Page, Richmond, Taylor Hammack, William Moreno, Larry Enderli, N. V. McWilliams. Brewer named Tony Capoyina secretary and Ed Rutledge treasurer, pending board approval.
SHREVEPORT Louisiana AP report says two tank cars carrying 60 000 gallons of butadiene derailed as a Kansas City Southern freight entered the city. About 30 residents in the immediate area spent the night with friends or relatives while crews moved in to recover the cars. Officials say no great explosion danger but precautions are advised.
The Conservative Party, the Socialist Workers Party of Texas, and the American Party notified the Texas secretary of state they plan to nominate candidates by convention next year. This preliminary step seeks a 1968 general election ballot spot. Parties must prove 15,000 members. The American Party formed last week to back former Alabama Governor George Wallace if he runs.
The Weather Bureau reported Hurricane Beulah, which struck near the Rio Grande on Sept 2, as the third largest hurricane on record. Peak winds reached 236 mph at Brownsville, with 20 foot tides on South Padre Island and extensive floods. Thirteen deaths and wide destruction across South Texas were reported, with damages estimated around 100 million dollars in Texas.

They argue the rule imposes undue hardship in SMSAs like Odessa Lubbock Midland and San Angelo and call for Railroad Commission oversight. The groups urge regulatory latitude and case by case judgment on necessity to protect life and property.
ARCADIA Florida AP The parents of seven small children who died last week of parasitism poisoning were jailed after lie detector tests. Desoto County Judge Gordon Hays said the father showed guilty knowledge. James Richardson 32 and Annie Mae 29 faced murder and child neglect warrants. Tests and interviews continued as authorities planned further action.
Washington AP reports Walter Reuther moves to liquidate major AFL-CIO financial interests as he reportedly aims to pull the United Auto Workers from the federation. The Industrial Union Department, backing unions and community programs, has seen cash reserves shrink from just over 32 million to about 34 million.
About 215 public school and community college representatives attended a Lee College seminar on educational innovations led by four consultants. Dr. Johnson and Franklin Bouwsma chaired meetings while Berlie Fallon LaMar Jolson and Charles Mansfield spoke to educators. Fallon urged unfreezing ideas to enable change and emphasized validating goals, noting innovation is not an end but a means.
