Brooks Dies During Hunt
Jack E. Brooks, 48, manager of Phenix Dairy, died suddenly about 9:30 am Saturday in a route truck on White Ranch Road, 12 miles south of Winnie in Chambers county, returning from a hunting trip. Two men behind him stopped to help and found the truck left the road, crossing a ditch and hitting a levy near a bayou. D. A. Buell of Houston and E. Pepitone of Beaumont assisted and called Deputy Sheriff Clyde Randall. a nurse tried artificial respiration but Brooks died within seconds. Sheriff Otter noted no marks on the body. the cause remains under investigation by Justice of the Peach D. S. Winston.
