The Baytown parade kicked off the four day AyaTown Fair with a 10 2m start along Avenue from Oak Tree Highway 16. Highway Patrol and police cars led the procession as crowds lined the route. The Robert E. Lee Band with robe twirlers followed in cowboy costumes, delivering a lively opening section.
City Manager Bicton announced the 1951 budget will be released with a cover showing the north entrance of the town tunnel. In Highlands a fire damaged a living room chair and walls on Prairie Avenue, brought under control by June volunteers. Mrs Bessie Louise Met 38 of 3311 Illinois died at 6 4 today in Baytown hospital after long illness. Survived by husband L L McClendon mechanical foreman at Baytown Refinery. A native of Bowling Green Kentucky she lived in Baytown 20 years. Funeral services tomorrow at Paul O rial Home with Rev P rector of the Church officiating. Burial Memorial Park Cemetery. Two men armed with German luger pistols were shot by White House guards as they tried to force Blair House entrances near the White House. Three guards were wounded. President Truman was inside. One assailant died on arrival at Emergency Hospital, the other gravely wounded. The incident occurred on a bright autumn afternoon with many government staff nearby.
Pope Pius XI proclaims as dogma the belief that Mary bodies ascended to heaven and was reunited with Jesus. The announcement comes from Vatican City with a large gathering of Catholic prelates present.
A British airline flight from Paris crashed in London during heavy fog at the London Airport. Twenty eight passengers and crew were killed, with one stewardess and another passenger surviving with injuries. The wreckage burnt, with 25 passengers and three crew members among the dead. A passenger identified as Ernest Friedman of New York was among the deceased.

In Amarillo about 100 fire plugs opened draining streets, motorist hazards flooded mains, and a master valve issue disrupted water flow. Brownwood saw dynamite blasting damage to a newspaper office rear steps. Houston police faced a violent crowd in River Oaks as teens mobbed streets.

In Ayot St Lawrence England the famed playwright George Bernard Shaw aged 94 slipped into a coma and his housekeeper Mrs Alice Cadden said doctors had abandoned all hope of saving him describing his death as only a matter of hours away.
Baytown teachers and students reported strong giving as Cedar Bayou Independent School District surpasses its goal under Supt R W Akridge. Goose Creek ISD workers contributed 2435 73 dollars, 115 over goal, led by John M Stuart. Humble Oil divisions also exceeded targets, bringing total to 57095 75 with 18 percent progress remaining. Time and Main Offices added new refinery departments. Five firms reached 200 percent of their goals including Brooms Barber Shop McDonald and Davis Insurance Adorable Beauty Shop Bank Grill and Pauls Food Market.
Larry Joe Williams age 3 weeks or 314 yearold son of Rev and Mrs Williams of Baytown was killed instantly last night when he fell from a moving car on Decker Drive. He rode in the back seat with his brother Ronnie aged 8 who warned his mother but barely spoke before Larry opened the door and tumbled out. Mrs Williams and Mrs Eastman driver of the car and wife of the pastor were en route to Lynchburg to visit church members when the accident occurred. The baby fell clear of the car and was not run over by the Eastman car. He was taken to San Jacinto Memorial Hospital where physicians attempted to revive him. An inquest by Justice of the Peace Roscoe Zier led to a verdict of accidental death. The Williams and Eastman families have been close church coworkers.
Houston reports baytown police officers Anderson and Dickens were convicted in district court for beating a prisoner. Anderson received a 100 dollar fine and 230 days suspended jail time with three years suspended, Dickens a 50 dollar fine. Both have 30 days to pay. The judge suspended sentences shortly after with differing remarks. Assistant US district attorney Eckhardt had no recommendations. defense counsel Lithle vouched for the officers' good reputations and character witnesses.
An American armored column advanced toward the Manchurian frontier in northwest Korea, with a US 24th Division task force pushing eight miles up the coast before halting near Chonko. Communist counterattacks on the right flank deployed Russian-made fighters as up to 16,000 Red troops attacked the Allied line Northeast of the Acharieans, while heavy artillery knocked out several enemy tanks.
The Navy announced plans to call up 31,000 enlisted reserves and unknown numbers of reserve officers in the first half of 1951. About 5,000 enlisted reservists will go on active duty each month from January to June. Half of the 31,000 will be petty officers and half non rated personnel in grades E-3 or E-1 and E-2 with at least six months prior active duty. Officers called will be mainly general duty officers with ranks of lieutenant commanders and below. Few aviators or ground aviation specialists will be mobilized. In October 1951 the Navy plans to free 1,500 officers per month who were called involuntarily. The move aims to build up the fleet and supporting establishments to a stabilized level short of full mobilization.
