Cedar Bayou history and its naming origins in Galveston era
Cedar Bayou area east of Wooster and Tri City Beach was once known by that name. Cypress trees, used for Galveston pilings, gave the geography its label while cedar-like timber influenced local naming. Early settlers trace the Bayou name to Jean Lafitte, with Cedar Bayou hosting an 1844 Methodist Church, a 1870 Masonic lodge, and a pre 1861 agricultural center noted for cotton and crops.
