Texas City Little League scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to defeat Baytown East 7 year olds 10 to 9. Lawana Perkins of Robert E. Lee has signed a letter of intent to run track at Northwestern State University.
Several civic-minded Rangers have painted a mural to be hung in the children’s ward of Ben Taub Hospital, reflecting community service and hospital support by local volunteers.

Baytown faith groups launch Lighthouse Baptist Academy after North Shore Community Baptist Church closes San Jacinto Christian Academy. Pastor Jim Lamb notes families needed a new place, with construction underway for a two level 11 000 square foot facility and 5 000 square foot upstairs. A gym will be added next year and fall sports will use South Drive Baptist Church gym.
A $5,000 donation from Fred and Wilhelmina Phillips helps the Art League of Baytown near its $120,000 target for a permanent Texas Avenue property. The league has about $100,000 ready, leaving roughly $20,000 to raise as appraisal proceeds. See LEAGUE on page 3.
