Tax burden cited for Bayway Drive plan protest
Dr. John Hurr told Baytown City Council that proposed Bayway Drive improvements would force landowners to pay multiple times through construction fees bond retirement and higher property taxes. He noted school and church properties on Bayway would also bear costs, predicting residents could pay four or five times for the same street. The petition opposing the plan now exceeds 800 names as residents fear grade lowering and upheaval during Hurricane Carla. More than 100 citizens attended the meeting, with many urging the council to reconsider.
