Chambers County loses grant for Spindletop drainage project
Chambers County's Spindletop Watershed Drainage Improvements failed to win funding in the May 21 Community Development Block Grant Mitigation program awards. The multi jurisdictional effort with Liberty County and Trinity Bay Conservation District would have cut flood levels and reduced impacts from storms, but scored 67.71, below the 78 funded minimum, leaving residents affected by Harvey and Imelda without relief. County leaders vow to pursue alternative funding to mitigate future floods.
