Barbers Hill baseball lost 5-3 in the decisive third game to Lamar Consolidated. The program’s players donated 3434.50 dollars to SIMH Cancer Center as part of community efforts. A Memorial Day service was scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Bicentennial Park.
Goose Creek CISD celebrated 31 retiring employees at its May 24 Gala at Ross S. Sterling High School. The event honored more than 700 years of district service across teachers administrators food service staff and custodians. Baytown Police awarded Officer John Almendarez a Purple Heart and Detective Juan Reyes a Medal of Commendation after responding to a suspicious-person call on April 19.
Roseanna Henrichsen of Stephen F. Austin Elementary was named Elementary Teacher of the Year, with retirement looming after a career since 1981. Debbie Himsel of Goose Creek Memorial High School was named Secondary Teacher of the Year, having taught since 2008.
The Rascoe family asks the public to aid in locating lifelong Baytown resident Scott Rascoe who disappeared May 5 from his daughter's home. Search crews have stopped, and Kristen Yates faces the possibility of closure or a recovery, while hoping for any surviving clues.
Goose Creek Country Club opens its pool to the public after five decades with a summer family pool membership for 175 dollars. Members retain access options while the club adapts policies to meet economic needs. Memorial Day grand opening and barbecue planned as part of the season launch.
The Baytown Sun will close for Memorial Day with the office shut on Monday while newsroom staff operate during regular hours.
