Cornerstones laid for big Baytown hospital in 1947
In 1947 a crowd at a Decker Drive site near Market and Texas Avenue watched Gordon Farned and John M. Kilgore lay cornerstones for what became San Jacinto Memorial, Baytowns largest postwar hospital. Completion was targeted for 1948 as the community built a four story, 100 bed facility, later joining the Methodist system as San Jacinto Methodist. The ceremony featured the Robert E. Lee Band and color guards, with Kilgore and Farned underlining wartime memorials and Humble Oil gifts.
