Woods, Water & Wildlife Compulsory Camping Flight to Mason Tex
Russell Tinsley, a 1950s journalism student turned first outdoor editor at the Austin American Statesman, faced a real two week forced camping assignment after a Popular Mechanics request. He and his wife Marjorie packed food gear and rifles, surviving on wild onions, fish, game, and prayer along Honey Creek and the Llano River while reporting on their ordeal. John Jefferson, longtime outdoorsman and Texas wildlife expert, profiles Tinsley and notes his career and survival philosophy.
