The five member nominating committee will select new board members for United Way of Greater Baytown Area and Chambers County. Current board members David Daspit and Karen Thomas serve the committee with Mary Garcia Doug Walker and Nick Woolery representing partner agencies and membership at large. Residents along Highway 146 protested traffic and amenities concerns as Baytown Planning and Zoning Commission recommended a special use permit for Gromax Development to convert 26 acres into 210 RV stands on General Commercial land near Tanglewilde. Opponents warn RV parks attract similar developments, while supporters claim economic benefits.
Voters in Chambers and Harris counties have final hours to cast ballots for the Democratic and Republican runoff races ahead of the November general. In Chambers County voting runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at multiple sites including Anahuac and Mont Belvieu locations, while Harris County voting lasts 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Baytown and Crosby sites.
The City of Baytown held a ceremonial opening for fire station No 7 on Eastpoint Boulevard near I 10. The station has been operational since March and serves an area with new subdivisions, hotels, and commercial buildings. It staffs fifteen firefighters on three shifts and is the largest station, housing engine, ladder, and ambulance units. It also takes over Haz Mat duties from Station 4 and includes specialized equipment for chemical spills.
