Pens Comeback Shelved in District One Playoff Plan
District One will stage a double round robin to decide a champion and runner up. The top teams meet in the conference tournament at North Texas State in Denton on the first Monday and Tuesday in March 1953. Lee College schedules about 12 non district games plus 10 district affairs and aims for at least 10 home games. Past teams were known as the Blue Devils, renamed Rebels last year, and Lee College joined the TCIAC after a Fort Worth meeting with Coach Laird and Dean Rundell. In New Britain Conn Willie Pep’s comeback stalls for months after an eye injury from a head clash in Miami Beach. Pep, winner of four straight since losing his title to Saddler, heads to Connecticut for eye surgery. Visitors to American Samoa require round trip tickets and proof of funds.
