Emotions Overflow at Police Memorial Service
Officers, civilians and civic leaders gathered Friday during National Police Week to honor 19 Texas law enforcement members who died on duty between May 2010 and April 2011. Special guests included representatives from nearby agencies that lost an officer this year, with UH Police Assistant Chief Brad Wigtis and two Texas Department of Criminal Justice wardens among attendees.

Woman foils Baytown ticket scam by fake DPS call
Highlands woman avoided a scam that claimed her husband owed a red light ticket from March 15 in Baytown. A caller posing as a Texas Department of Public Safety officer demanded immediate payment or a warrant would be issued. The victim remained cautious and provided no payment.
