EPA proposal on refinery emissions faces public comment
EPA continues reviewing tighter rules for refinery toxics after a 2012 lawsuit claims current standards violate the Clean Air Act. Environmental groups say self reported emissions are understated and stronger controls would curb leaks, cut costs, and reduce exposure for low income and minority communities near Baytown refineries. The agency seeks comments for 60 days, with hearings planned near Houston and Los Angeles and a final rule expected April 2015.
