A district RHO ZETA Chapter fellowship of Beta Sig will gather at Pentecostal Church of God on 2211 N Main at 7 30 Monday evening. The meeting will be hosted at the home of Mrs Gene Branscome 906 Rosewood Drive.
Baytown area notices cover a public meeting at Grace Methodist Church at 7 30 pm Monday with children in charge, plus a KC Hall session at 3 pm Monday hosted by Baytown Beachtown Fire Department. Reports include a house fire at Strayed Convenient Grocery on Highway 146 south of La Porte causing $35 000 loss, a second Lowe store destroyed in nine months, and Isensee Grocery demolished last Sept. Fire officials cite overheated barbecue pit origin.
NR and Mrs C D Lille of Baytown travel from Houston for a 10 day schedule including a tentative meeting with President Kennedy in Washington arranged by Senator Ralph Yarborough. They plan Pittsburgh as headquarters and attend events in Pa, with Mrs Bettie Weckworth Derryberry joining. a fire at a Bayshore store disrupts local voting plans during the water district setup.
Harris County Commissioners Court met with architects and engineers to set a cost estimate for a domed sports stadium. A May 28 meeting was planned to review figures as federal funding for a community fallout shelter was denied. Ramsey said the project would proceed without the shelter using available funds.
The country club will not grant votes to associate members and will limit appointive roles while excluding elective offices. Two other witnesses, Carl Miller and William E Morris, also expected to testify as Estes’ grain and fertilizer empire faces scrutiny over alleged improprieties and favored handling.

Richard Sirovika topped Crosby High with a 95.94 grade average across all four years ninth through twelfth, earning the valedictorian honor. Charley Fuller and numerous Baytown area members helped elect Tedford and Mrs. Tony Campos along with Bishop of Texas City to district governor, with next year’s district finals set for May 24 28 in Galveston.
Two called membership meetings of Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Local 4333 will be held Tuesday for members to vote on accepting a negotiated contract with Humble Oil and Refining Co Baytown Refinery. Meetings at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Union Hall 1300 Oklahoma. A report from the negotiations committee will precede the vote and a recommendation to accept the contract.
Barkley Square a 12 unit apartment project will be built on the south side of Park Street in Graywood Addition. Pace Seller Interests of Houston owns it with Norman Dobbins as president and Pace Seller Construction Co as contractor. John Blackburn and son John S Burl Blackburn will manage. The wooded site will offer one two and three bedroom units plus two bedroom studio layouts with fireplaces and two enclosed patios. A shared pool cabanas outdoor furnishings and covered carports are planned along with tropical landscaping and outdoor features. Units will include refrigerators ranges disposals and dishwashers with masonry walls a fountain and winding streets.
Mrs Leaf Rose Dillard 52 a Baytown resident for 37 years died Sunday at 2013 Center. Survived by husband W M Dillard Baytown daughter Mrs Janice D Larsen Baytown parents Mr and Mrs Lewis Boullion Kaplan La sister Mary Louise Boullion Kaplan and five brothers Clarence T Boullion Roosevelt Boullion Baytown Rudolph E Boullion Baton Rouge La and Wilson Joseph Boullion Kaplan. Services Tuesday 815 pm at Harthman Chapel and 9 am at St Jude Catholic Highlands with interment in San Jacinto Memorial Park. Rosary 730 pm Monday Earthman Chapel. Member of Legions of Mary and Sacred Heart.
A school bus accident in Torreon New Mexico left at least one child dead and many injured. Reports vary on total casualties with estimates ranging from 30 to 39 injured and a driver injured. The bus reportedly overturned near Cuba and involved Indian students from San Juan County. Dorothy Toledo, a fourth grader, was identified as dead by a Cuba Elementary School spokesman.
Mrs J J Weiler and her daughter Barbara Beard were injured in a Monday car train collision on the Missouri Pacific line near the Market Street Road fire station. They were admitted to Baytown Hospital for treatment of cuts and possible fractures.
Lee College and Robert E. Lee High School slated graduation ceremonies Friday night with separate services at Memorial Stadium and the REL auditorium. About 4 000 Baytonians to attend the dual events, with diplomas awarded by Superintendent George Gentry and special awards by Dean Walter Rundell. Noted speakers include Dr. Charles Allen and Dr. Wayne H. McCleskey. music by Thomas Slone and the Lee College Choir.
The Baytown baccalaureate drew about 4000 attendees as Robert E Lee High School bands and choirs performed. Supt George Gentry announced remarks by Rev Basil Jones and speakers who urged seniors to face life’s road with gratitude to teachers and America while planning future paths amid world challenges.
David Estrada of 6302 Wade Road secured first in the state VEW pmarhle fouaynent at Post 912 Baytown earning a trip to the national tournament in Greenville Tennessee. He is son of Mr and Mrs Trinidad Estrada and represents De Zavala Elementary School in the Fourth 1 District state playoff. John Brown of Houston took second and Lloyd Grigsby of Baytown third. Zorn VFW legal advisor spoke for the Baytown Optimist Club which presented trophies and wrist watches to the top three. All entrants received VFW T shirts. Participants enjoyed a fried chicken dinner a swimming party and tours of Battleship Texas and San Jacinto battlegrounds.
E A Woody Rose precinct 165 Lakewood chairman receives backing for re election as secretary of the Harris County Democratic Executive Committee from 35 conservative precinct judges. Wells notes Rose embodies grassroots control favored by conservatives. Burk agreed to support if majority desires. Rose has held the post since September 1961.
