Art Happenings Along Emeryville Freeway Draw Cars
Driftwood sculptures along the Eastshore Freeway draw daily traffic and curiosity in Emeryville California. A hitchhiking hand and a headless horseman are among the pieces believed to be created since 1985 by an anonymous artist. University of California Berkeley art professor Harold Paris notes the works stem from self expression rather than the formal art world. Roadway officials acknowledge the pieces, with some vandalism repaired and concerns that they may pose a traffic hazard.
