First Woman Wins Quisenberry Poultry Science Award at A&M
Brenda Sue Lange Schneider of College Station becomes the first woman to receive the J. H. Quisenberry Outstanding Poultry Science Student Award at Texas A&M. A Barbers Hill High School graduate and junior poultry science major, she earns a wall plaque and wrist watch. Her name will be engraved with past winners in the poultry science department.

Air Layering Aids In Growing New Plants
An Anahuac Texas extension agent explains air layering as a simple method to produce new plants from existing branches. Select a healthy 1/2 to 3/4 inch branch, remove adjacent twigs, start roots 12 to 15 inches from tip, make a slant cut, insert a toothpick, wrap with damp sphagnum moss and film, add foil to prevent algae, then cut below roots and plant after roots appear. Roots take weeks to months, then plant in well drained soil.

Fire at Exxon Baytown Refinery Causes Minor Damage
A fire at Exxon's Baytown Refinery around 2 p.m. Wednesday sparked by heating oil in a pipe rack caused no injuries. Refinery firefighters doused the flames in 15 minutes. workers cut off the line to stop the leak and ensure repairs. Minor damages were reported by an Exxon spokesman.

Warning on Mosquito Threat to Horses in Anahuac
Anahuac reports warn that mosquito season raises risk of equine encephalitis among horses. J R Carroll of the Texas Agricultural Extension notes three forms Western EEE Eastern EEE and Venezuelan VEE with EEE and WEE most common. In 1975 U S labs diagnosed 674 WEE and 5a EEE cases. state labs added 105 VEE and 40 EEE. Vaccination is urged to protect horses and prevent future reentry risks.
