Obama Texas visit and Perry clash over wildfire aid
Barack Obama travels to Texas May 10 for a Austin fundraiser and a border security speech in El Paso while Gov. Rick Perry declines to meet him. FEMA has already approved 26 fire management grants covering 75 percent of wildfire costs, with the Rainy Day Fund available for additional finance. The budget fight cuts public school funding by about 6.5 billion over two years, prompting GOP concerns as lawmakers face potential elections and local district impacts.
