The North Shore Community Baptist Church voted 90 percent to shut down San Jacinto Christian Academy near Lynchburg due to plunging enrollment from about 450 to 146 over the past decade. Tuition runs roughly 3600 to 4000 dollars for secondary students, with elementary costs lower, and staff pay struggles hastened the decision despite fundraisers and donations. Superintendent Harold Payne said families were warned and offered assistance as they plan for summer and fall.
The St Thaddeus Catholic Church bazaar attracted over 600 attendees to a fundraiser expected to raise 30 000 to 37 000 dollars.
