UFO Report Ties Object To Weather Gear Over Texas Panhandle
Cmdr. Robert Geiger said a cigar shaped flying object seen near Memphis Texas was weather probing equipment released from a 60 foot tail balloon. The gear parachute failed causing a small fire, with the Navy and Air Force collecting the remains for study as residents reported the sight. The device, launched from Levelland area two weeks earlier, landed about 12 miles south of Memphis, while the balloon reached 90,000 feet.
