Early Thursday at 1 30 a m a couple in the 700 block of Ward Road were robbed inside their home after wife opened the door to invite in two men one of whom produced a revolver and demanded money. The unknown suspect, described as a 20 year old black man about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 200 pounds, fled with the wife s purse and medications. The friend present says he was held at gunpoint during the crime. Police continue to investigate and Baytown Crime Stoppers offers rewards for information anonymously.
Gerrod Baldwin, 16, raised around cattle, shows his 1255 pound steer Westin in the Steer Show kicking off May 3 as part of the Baytown Youth Fair and Livestock Show. The event runs two weeks and draws FFA and 4-H participants. Westin weighs 14 months old and sits in the middleweight class after ownership since January.
United Steelworkers Local 13 2001 members vote to ratify agreements covering about 850 workers in the Baytown refinery chemical plant and labs. The contracts, effective May 15 2013, run three years with 3 percent raises first two years and tie third year to other ExxonMobil facilities. The Coast Guard reports 2012 set a record low for recreational boating fatalities nationwide and urges safer choices as the 2013 season begins. Alcohol was noted in 17 percent of fatal incidents, with top causes including operator inattention and inexperience, improper lookout, machinery failure, and excessive speed. Deaths dropped 14.1 percent from 758 to 651, injuries 2.6 percent, and total accidents fell from 4,588 to 4,515.
