Rocky Marciano Defeats Cockell In Ninth Round KO
Rocky Marciano retains the world heavyweight title with a technical KO over Don Cockell at Kezar Stadium after a brutal ninth round. Promoter Jim Norris eyed a rematch with Cockell or a September defense against another contender, with potential next challengers including Archie Moore, Bobo Olson, or Bob Baker. Cockell, who fought bravely, was knocked down three times and injured, as Marciano demonstrated a new left uppercut and body attack.
