Senate passes coast land bill amid veto risk
The Senate sent to the White House a measure granting coastal states title to submerged lands up to three miles seaward, or ten miles for Texas and Florida. The plan, seen as likely to be vetoed by President Truman, would shift control from federal to state governments and could be worth billions in oil rights. Supporters argued it would curb federal overreach. opponents warned of constitutional challenges and a likely presidential veto.
