Annual Stamp Out Hunger drive extended to May 18
Thirteen million children face hunger and school impact as the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive extends through this Saturday. Due to weather, postal workers collected less than half the usual donations, with only 13 postal vehicles serving 11 local pantries. Volunteers are urged to donate non perishable items through Friday and assist May 20 distribution. contact Lori Rumfield at United Way to volunteer.

Thomson Award goes to Kendricka Moore at Goose Creek Memorial
Kendricka Moore a special education teacher and department head at Goose Creek Memorial High School is named the 2018 2019 James Becker Thomson Special Education Teacher of the Year. The 44th recipient Moore who began as a para at Ross S Sterling HS earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice and later a bachelor’s and master’s in education at Lamar University. She also coaches freshman girls basketball and track while prioritizing student rapport to calm disruptions and keep learners on track.
