White Valdez clash in Texas governor runoff debate
In the only Democratic runoff debate in Austin on May 11, Andrew White backed expanding Texas education and full-day pre kindergar ten while Lupe Valdez challenged his abortion stance. White said he would veto limits on abortion and would trust women to make health care decisions, citing Cecile Richards and Joe Biden. Valdez pressed White on immigration cooperation and noted her own anti–immigration-law fight, while both candidates claimed party endorsements and audience appeal. Early voting runs through May 18 ahead of the May 22 runoff to face Governor Greg Abbott.
