Lamar Tech student Brent Ray dies in Mont Belvieu crash
Brent Core Ray 20 a Lamar Tech Beaumont student home for Mother's Day was killed Sunday when his car collided head on with a vehicle driven by Wili Hopson of Hamshire. Hopson escaped with a knee injury. The crash occurred on the south access road near the Firm Market Road 565 underpass on Interstate 26 as Hopson turned onto the interstate feeder. Ray was alone in his car and died instantly. Funeral services were set for 3 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Mont Belvieu. Ray was a Barbers Hill High School graduate and son of Mr and Mrs C Ray. He was born December 20, 1946, in Palestine and moved to Mont Belvieu 11 years ago.

Baytown Man Wounded In Car Train Crash Saturday
Baytown police reported a serious weekend crash when a westbound car struck a Missouri Pacific train at Market Street. Calvin Wayne Elkins, 21, Route 2, Baytown, suffered lung injuries, broken ribs, lacerations, and possible kidney injury. He was hospitalized in serious condition.
