Yarborough cites S1,700 from Estes for radio show
Sen Ralph Yarborough acknowledged receiving 1700 from Bill Estes toward his weekly Texas radio broadcast with no strings attached. Estes, feted by Chambers of Commerce as an ideal young American, was described by Yarborough as a devout church worker and family man. Separate report notes Estes’ journal listed payments, with further sums possible, while Yarborough offered proof he did not receive 1000 and would withhold further comment pending record checks. In a separate item, Martin Gen Mir Force Base said a navigation training plane with nine aboard on a civilian search mission was overdue and believed down near Tampico after contact was lost near Brownsville.

Immunization Plan Changes Tabled by School Board
School trustees Monday night tabled a proposal by Trustee Karl Qoryshek to provide religious or medical exemptions to immunization requirements. A Baytown Christian Scientist family urged exemption on religious grounds, arguing compulsory care infringes constitutional rights. The district currently requires vaccines for smallpox diphtheria and whooping cough with no exemptions in policy though medical exemptions are used in practice. Changes under review may add polio immunization and reflect other districts' policies, while debate centers on welfare versus religious freedom.
