Lightning Strike Sparks Oil Tank Fire in Beach City

A lightning strike hit six oil tanks at a Galveston Bay Energy site on Point Narrow Road causing a fire that prompted evacuation of about 100 residents to the Beach City Community Center. No injuries were reported as responders from ExxonMobil and local agencies battled the blaze, with a reprieve by noon.

Court declines to rule on UIW sovereign immunity claim

The Texas appeals court declined to rule on whether University of the Incarnate Word police are protected by sovereign immunity in the Redus case. It ruled UIW is not a governmental unit for jurisdiction, and remanded to resolve the interlocutory appeal. The case concerns officer Christopher Carter shooting Cameron Redus after a traffic stop. Multiple Burglaries Reported Across Garth Road Area

A string of vehicle and building burglaries occurred in the 3500 to 4900 blocks this week. Items stolen include a firearm valued at 350 dollars, electronics worth 2200 dollars, cash, a purse, a television, a game system, a cell phone, and other property.
