House sends school funding bill to Perry
The Texas House approved a sweeping education reform bill on Friday and sent it to Gov. Rick Perry four days before the end of the 30 day special session. The measure replaces some school property taxes with surplus money as part of a five bill plan to fix school finance before the June 1 deadline. The package targets the Supreme Court ruling that unconstitutional statewide property taxes deprived districts of rate discretion. Other measures include a new business tax proposal and a change in used car purchases with more tax policies still under review.
