Wheat Plowing Under Policy Sparks Uncertainty
Washington AP reports a government crop appraisal on May 1 shows 37.6 million acres of winter wheat, 9 percent above last year. If harvest aligns with govt allotments, about 35 million acres would be harvested. Farmers may still plow under excess land to meet the program. Noncooperators lose price supports and certificates. The winter wheat crop is forecast at 1,013,000,000 bushels, up 32 percent. The program aims to cut surpluses and boost incomes.
