Pentagon signs 1.2 billion contract for 493 F-111s
The Pentagon announced a 1.2 billion contract with General Dynamics for 493 swing wing F-111s, excluding engines and avionics. Officials cited flyaway costs around 5 to 8 million per aircraft depending on variant, with commonality between Air Force and Navy designs not equaling full identical parts. Congress faces further appropriations to cover remaining units and equipment.
