Mays Likely Stays Put as Mets Hold Trade Hopes
New York AP reports Willie Mays unlikely to join the Mets via trade with the San Francisco Giants. Giants reportedly seek infielder Ted Martinez and one of pitchers John Matlack or Jim McAndrew, while the Mets prefer cash. Mets chair M. Donald Grant says a meeting with Mays is possible and will depend on Mays’s reaction.
