Lee College will host two commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Sports Arena to accommodate rising attendance. Registrar Becki Griffith notes 48 percent growth over six years and last year’s 320 graduates with limited seating and four guest tickets. No tickets this year. guests may attend freely, with discipline-based divisions at each session.
Chambers County officials and families unveiled a granite memorial for Deputy Shane Detwiler and three other fallen officers. Judge Jimmy Sylvia and Sheriff Joe LaRive spoke, honoring their sacrifices as Audie Detwiler, age seven, unveiled the stone with the crowd observing in quiet tribute.
Baytown residents and volunteers pressed on Tuesday in a search for 43 year old Scott Rascoe who vanished after an argument with a girlfriend. The effort, led by EquuSearch with about 40 volunteers, extended from the last-seen area near Horace Mann Junior School to fishing spots and likely nearby wooded areas. Police used a boat and a FOX helicopter for aerial coverage as the missing man’s family awaited any sign. The search continued on Wednesday with the same level of volunteer involvement.
A man reported missing in the Lakewood area of Baytown around 10 p.m. Monday returned home safely, police report. The case, separate from the Rascoe search, spurred its own near Burnett Drive Monday night with the man paddling a raft from Lynchburg before returning unharmed.
Ybarra, a seven year police officer with City of Pearland and current school resource officer, seeks a district council seat. He notes his experience mirrors Pasadena area governance and highlights the district’s older community sections.
