Dioxin sources tied to Houston area pits and Deer Park plants
The investigation links dioxin and PCB hotspots in the Houston Ship Channel and Upper Galveston Bay to three main sources: leaking waste pits, the old paper mill site in Pasadena, and a major Deer Park chemical complex. Regulators have not enacted cleanup standards, delaying action by Shell, Occidental Chemical, and EPA oversight, while a 1990 health warning limited seafood consumption due to dioxin.

Dioxin in Texas river pits tied to private wells exposure
The Texas health agency released a 2012 public health assessment warning of fish hazards from dioxin in Riverine waste pits while dismissing soil or well water contamination in neighborhoods. UH studies could not determine yard or well safety. The Matulas' wells showed older water with dioxin over twice EPA danger levels. a deeper well met limits. Houston attorney Mithoff represents 600 families seeking links to cancer and birth defects, arguing river and fish exposure caused health harms.
