Delay Sought in Child Care Standards Enforcement
Washington reports HEW requests a postponement of new day care standards to October to give Congress time for a possible alternative. The move follows Senate's veto sustainment of a July 1 start, with $125 million to states and current enforcement undecided. The standards require adult child ratios and would cut federal funds for noncompliance. The House had backed an override. the bill's fate hinges on a broader Congress vote.
