Money Stolen From Car Trunk Belongs to Moose Lodge

Mrs. Hazel Collins reported $200 missing from the trunk of her car. The money reportedly belonged to the Moose Lodge where she works. Authorities seek the missing funds as evidence. Police seek forged checks cashed on an R. W. Ridgeway since Monday by Baytown merchants. Verne Wayne McDonald, 20, faces car theft charges in Justice of the Peace court. Recount Underway After Close Harris County Primaries

In two tight Democratic preelection recounts County Commissioner V. V. Ramsey and Justice of the Peace Glenn Vickery trail in unofficial totals. The recounts began Wednesday morning at the Hart County Oak Street Warehouse where voting machines are kept. Jamie Bray led Ramsey while N C Morrison led Vickery. Ramsey expects a full day to complete the process.

Students at many campuses join protests against Nixon Cambodian policy and Kent State killings. Some campuses shut down. others held rallies and vigils. Kent State planned phased National Guard withdrawal from the closed campus amid the fatal antiwar demonstrations.

Louisiana Man Killed In Interstate Crash

Burkman Joseph Fontenot 27 of Lake Charles La died in a two car head on collision about 1230 a m Wednesday near Interstate 10 and Stolander Road intersection. Ronnie Fontenot 23 driver of the other car was pinned and taken to Gulf Coast Hospital Baytown then Veterans Hospital Houston. Edward Holmes 51 driver of second vehicle and two of his three passengers James Nash 37 Robert W Taylor 40 were listed in satisfactory or fair condition at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. A third passenger William Brown 37 was moved to Ben Taub Hospital. State Highway Patrolman Charles Bailey investigated the crash.

Vigilant peace around capitol as antiwar protests continue

After tear gas and clubs were used to break up an antiwar rally, seven people were injured and state troopers and Texas Rangers increased patrols around the Texas Capitol and University of Texas. Students urged a two day university shutdown to honor Kent State victims while planning another march downtown.

Allies Open Three Fronts In Cambodia

Report says allied forces opened three new fronts inside Cambodia while Viet Cong and North Vietnamese attacks in South Vietnam killed 40 Americans and wounded 84. One North Vietnamese assault on a firebase south of the DMZ killed 29 U S troops, the largest toll in 20 months. The clash included rocket grenades and mortar fire as six more Americans and 15 enemy troops died in northern provinces. A grenade attack on a Da Nang police station killed six Vietnamese officers and wounded six.

Fire Levels Utility Unit At Hospital
