House Defers Corporation Tax Debate In Texas
The Texas House postponed debate on the corporation income tax for one week by a 76 to 469 vote after Rep. Reed Quilliam said lawmakers lacked sufficient information. Quilliam argued the bill would notch a surplus in 1964-1965, while Rep. Charles Wilson contended postponement would kill the measure. Senate action and hearings were cited as reasons for delay. Wilson estimated the state faced a shortfall of 85 to 95 million even with a sales tax bill moving forward.
