Judge OQ McCullough ordered a crackdown on owners who let unlicensed drivers operate vehicles. Six men were fined $16 each for permitting unlicensed drivers to operate their cars, none used for business. A man employing a negro chauffeur to drive him was fined the same as the driver for lacking a license. The judge warned that unlicensed drivers cause too many accidents and that proper drivers would have licenses.
Sailor son O O Putnam is being sought by his father O O Putnam’s son O O Putnam, as Robert Craig of Highlands appeals to Baytown region residents for help locating him. Craig reports Tom Putnam last heard the father living near Baytown. The son, on leave, plans to visit Highlands in a few weeks.
A group of 32 elementary teachers and refinery workers present a Handicraft Activities course exhibit in downtown Bay Town. Leather work, wood items, burlap hats, and ceramics mix with pink giraffes and purple dogs inspired by Houston artists. Mrs Day’s pink giraffe drew large crowds. bids flowed from Houston libraries for the purple dashund. Miss Gardner notes bids may lead to sales.
The Sun reports seven more letters arrived yesterday, bringing totals to 60. Nominations include Mrs. Lela Miller, Horace Mann, Mrs. E M Simmons, San Jacinto, Vi G Smith, Barbers Hill, Mrs. Mabel Plagens, Robert E Lee, Mrs. Willie Terry, Lamar, Mrs. Jack Hartt, Baytown Junior High, and Mrs. Sybil Jordan, Robert B Lee. Mrs. Jordan won in 1950. Hartt and Simmons have prior nominations. Judges were selected yesterday and may decide next week. names withheld until then.
Grapevine dispatches claim a major find at Petracha Well No 1 in Goose Creek Field by Hankomer Investment. The well lies near the W. N. Jones and Jones Hsiate wells and close to Independent School No 3. Drilling logs on the Shumberger test have not been delivered. Petrucha No 1 may come in this weekend as casing pipe arrives.
Police Chief H. E. McKee made two staff changes today filling vacancies in the Police Department. Patrolman A. J. Crowley will replace F. L. Foster, who resigned to work as an instrument man for a construction firm. Blair Mann, a city water department meter reader for 18 months, becomes patrolman replacing Gordon Smith who quit after less than a month. McKee seeks a radio operator to fill I. D. Montgomery’s post after his civil service appointment as an ordinance inspector.
U P reports the United States released captured North Korean battle plans in Lake Success New York proving Communist plans to invade South Korea and showing orders issued a week before the June 25 1950 start of the war. The report notes a slot machine ban received final Senate approval in Texas and that General Douglas MacArthur is expected to address a joint Texas Legislature session.
Sergeant Lee Prigmore returns from Korea to find his Goose Creek oil lot leased for 1600 dollars. The lease proceeds, about 1068 dollars, go to his wife as the agent boasted. Drifting operations may begin soon in Goose Creek field amid hot competition.
